Spanish Language and Culture

At his level, many of the skills tested are similar to an English or writing course like how to communicate with the written word and all of its associated . Let’s take a look at the material and see how we can help both on the exam and in the course of the class.

Ex 1:

We see "resumen" and therefore know to look at the end of the passage for the answer. That helps us eliminate B as the girl (nina) is in the middle, and both C/D the other flowers (las/otras flores) are not mentioned anywhere at all [it would be strange, if we know hierbas means weeds, that mattorales or maleza would mean other flowers]. Furthermore, test making companies do not want contraversy: they do not want to offend or have correct answers which promote a negative message. Therefore, it is unlikely that a female rose should discover her own beauty only through the lenses of others' be the correct answer, especially in comparison to 'seeing herself for the first time understood her worth.'

Ex 2:

We know it needs to be a process, or at least a verb, because "empezo a ..." and eliminate B & C.

If we know everything else but that word, even then we cannot say for certain what it means.  Time passed until she began to doubt herself without knowing, to overly groomherself without knowing, to [fill in a negative word] without knowing [herself to be positive, positive and positive].

Therefore, we know it is A, even if we also could get rid of D because it focuses on a passage away from the area in question.

Take a look at an example unit from the AP Spanish Language and Culture course.  Now, take a look at our writing curriculum for our novice and advanced academic writing programs.  We already know how to teach all of these skills, and in the advanced program, skills even beyond what is required.  So the only real difference for us is that it is in Spanish, and that's no problem at all!  We will ensure that not only is writing done to the highest standard of argumentative essay, but that the all important cultural elements are incorporated through style, reference examples and idioms/diction.

We have this well-covered in English: Writing Coaching & AP/IB English. The only question then is how to apply those concepts in Spanish. As mentioned, we understand not only the nuts and bolts of the language, but also how the culture expresses itself .
